The Wave Pictures are a three-piece from Leicestershire who’ve made a name for themselves with quirky indie-pop songs that more closely resemble humbly poetic and often outright hilarious little short stories. I went to one of their gigs back in 2011 and it wasn’t hard to tell they’re a real live band, entertaining, charming, a little dorky and absolutely loveable. Signed to Moshi Moshi Records, The Wave Pictures put out one album after the other it seems, and not all of them are albums in the classic sense: Most recently they have played tours performing Daniel Johnston’s album Artistic Vice, which they have also recorded on an album sold exclusely at those shows. Their next output will be an album called Great Big Flamingo Burning Moon (what a choice of title!), announced for February, on which they have worked with Billy Childish. The first song Green Pea Coat is already streaming on Soundcloud (see below).
On 30th November and 1st December The Wave Pictures drop by at Antje Øklesund in Berlin. While the first gig is almost sold out and tickets only remain at the door, for the second show tickets can still be bought on presale. We are also going to do a neat little review from the December gig, so check back for that or come to one of their other German dates:
